PSA: There is a sale from July 15-31st 2015! If you are reading this post during this period, it is probably best to purchase your products from Rose Rose Shop!
For the past week, I have feverishly chewed my way through much of the r/AsianBeauty subreddit and almost all the Asian skincare skincare blogs I could find related to my skin type.
I’m really late to the reddit game, but the Asian Beauty subreddit is an actual such a gem.
Like, where else would you possibly find a list on the pH of different cleansers (you should ideally use cleansers below 5.5), vitamin C information (too complex for me to absorb at the moment), a list on the curvature of different eyelash curlers (super helpful), and a great beginners guide to Asian skincare with actual academic paper sources!?
Anyhow, with the help of numerous threads and blog posts, I have developed a basic skincare routine to start off with. It’s even slightly varied for morning and evening! Since I haven’t tried the products yet, I don’t know for sure how thin/thick/watery/oily each of them are, so some of the steps may change. Snow White and the Asian Pear has a wonderful guide on how to order your products and the reasoning behind it, and there’s even another post on how to modify your skincare routine to daily conditions
All the products below are at the top of the Holy Grail post for April 2015, and are supposedly suitable to my combination/dry skin, and the prices I bought them for at the end of the post.
I actually have the moisturising version that you have to foam up yourself so I’ll finish this first, before I purchase the foaming cleanser:
Skipping since I don’t have actives in the morning anyway
5. Eye cream
Skipping because it’s winter. OK I know, I should put on sunscreen anyway but how will it work when my eyebrows would get totally smudged!? Please advise. I need halp T_T
1. Emulsifying cleaser
Clean It Zero also has other options for sensitive skin (Purity), brightening (Radiance), and for pore reduction (Resveratrol)
2. Foaming cleanser
6. Eye cream
7. Sleeping pack
Prices for the products I bought
Banila Co. Clean it Zero cleansing balm: 16USD
Missha Time Revolution First Treatment and Activator Borabit Ampoule set (this includes 150mL and 30mL first treatment, and 50mL and 10 mL activator ampoule): 62USD
Benton Snail Bee High Content Steam Cream (bought as a 1+1 with the high content essence which I might add in after or swap with the first treatment or night activator): 26USD
Mizon Snail Repair Eye Cream 25mL (also offered as 15mL tube but this price was better value): 13USD
Too Cool for School Pumpkin Sleeping Pack: 13USD
I ordered all the Korean products on Ebay through I am Love Shop, Ruby Ruby Shop, and f2plus1 which were all highly commended stores. Some of the items were on ‘sale’ but I’m not sure if they’re always on sale so please don’t take the price point as a certainty and shop around when you’re purchasing!
I did check w2beauty as well, but they didn’t have the pumpkin sleeping pack and their prices were higher across the board, with only 1 or 2 of the products I wanted at similar prices to what I found on eBay.
The Japanese products are bought at a local store which is wildly overpriced, but it’s convenient and I do urgently need the toner and sunscreen before everything else. Besides, I saved a lot by purchasing the Korean products online, so it’s ok to spend a little more on the 2 other items right?
Tbqh, I pobably could have shopped around a little more and looked at some of the smaller stores, but many of the product prices had only a couple dollars difference and they’re already as cheap as I could reasonably expect them to be. This is the first time I’ve properly done research before purchasing skincare so I’m already feeling pretty proud of myself haha
Anyway, the plan is to check out how this routine works for me, and if any products don’t work or don’t perform as I expected then I’ll search for a replacement. There are several popular options for each of the steps in the skincare routine anyway, and I’ve already skipped out on some such as the emulsion, lotion, and plant oil which I can slowly add into the routine as necessary.
Can’t wait to test everything and review them when my parcels arrive!! These products were bought from 3 ebay stores, so I’ll have triple the fun hehehe
Also, in case you were wondering, yes the front page photo for this post is me without any makeup. I just couldn’t be bothered doing my face up real nice for a photo for this post ._.
And yes, I did add a filter to smooth out my skin a little. I have serious dark circles, dry skin, discoloration, and effects of over-peeling right now. T_T
Edit: I made another order just 2 days later (wtf) with some extra routine products that I might swap in, and several tubs of masks. Read it here!
Update: Watch the unboxing and shop review for my f2plus1 package on my post here.
